National Association of
  Computerized Tax Processors

Membership

The National Association of Computerized Tax Processors (NACTP) is a nonprofit association that represents tax processing software and hardware developers, electronic filing processors, tax form publishers, and tax processing service bureaus.

The association promotes standards in tax processing and works closely with the IRS and state governments to promote efficient and effective tax filing. The association also advocates private sector solutions to government tax processing technology requirements.

A joint goal of the NACTP and government taxing agencies is to provide the best possible service to taxpayers. The NACTP is dedicated to achieving that goal by providing expertise in and knowledge of software systems to assist government agencies in implementing new technologies. By working together, this goal can be achieved.

The association represents the collaborative nature of its organizational members. By working together, these organizations seek to achieve the following goals:

Improve the relationship and communication between computerized tax processing companies and government taxing agencies.
Encourage the standardization of tax forms; the timely distribution and clarification of forms, instructions, and regulations; and the simplification of approval procedures.
Promote the standardization and simplification of electronic filing systems.
Maintain professional standards in the computerized tax processing industry.
Function as a nonprofit association formed for the mutual benefit of its members

The NACTP has three main committees, which represent three important initiatives of the association: the Government Liaison Committee, the Electronic Filing Committee and the Payroll and Information Reporting Committee.

The Government Liaison Committee addresses issues from both the federal and state agencies, resolving problems and reinforcing information exchanges. This allows the computerized tax processing industry to create high-quality products that can be efficiently processed through each government's system.

The Electronic Filing Committee works with the IRS and state taxing agencies, researching and developing the electronic filing process. More returns are filed through this system every year, making it especially important for the links between processor and receiver to be error-free and efficient.

The Payroll and Information Reporting Committee (PIRC) focuses on issues relating to the wage reporting section (both unemployment and withholding) for electronic and paper-based filing. Key objectives of the PIRC are to establish open communication with federal and state agencies, to identify and accomplish mutually beneficial goals, and to facilitate standardization of wage filing systems and processes.
